Obituary : Jeanne C. Trebby
Jeanne Chapman Trebby, 85, formerly of Vineyard Haven, died Saturday evening, Dec. 13, at Concord (N.H.) Hospital, surrounded by members of her family.
Jeanne was born April 30, 1923, in Vineyard Haven, daughter of the late Clarence and Helen Chapman. She lived nearly all of her life on Martha's Vineyard, having moved to New Hampshire four years ago. She attended Deaconess Hospital's School of Nursing in Boston, and worked as a nurse at Martha's Vineyard Hospital.
She was a dedicated member of Grace Church in Vineyard Haven, serving on the Altar Guild, Vestry Committee and in the choir. She regularly participated in fundraisers such as soup suppers, lobster roll nights and other parish activities, which allowed everyone to enjoy her cooking talents. She will long be remembered for her delicious pies. She was also active in the Island Food Pantry and Vineyard Committee on Hunger. In addition, she enjoyed theater and music, participating in local Island productions.
Jeanne is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was predeceased by her husband Louis J. Trebby. She is survived by three siblings, Anne Seadale of Newfield, Maine; Thomas Chapman of Duxbury; and Mary Helen Smith of Framingham. She was predeceased by her brothers Parker and Robert Chapman and her sister Barbara James.
She is also survived by her eight children: Bettina Trebby Preston of Hillsborough, N.H.; Maria Trebby of Boise, Idaho; John Trebby of Nantucket; Carla Metell of Melrose; Robert Trebby of Charlestown; Regina Brenner of Winthrop; Julia Fernandez of Gilbert, Ariz.; and Thomas Trebby of Vineyard Haven, and her nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
