Obituary : Margaret M. Schnetke
Margaret Mary Schnetke, 90, of Oak Bluffs died peacefully at her daughter's home in Louisville, Ken. on February 12. Margaret "Peg" was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in July 2006. They were married for 66 years. She was also predeceased by her sister, Helen Schnetke.
Peg was born in Philadelphia on March 14, 1918. She leaves behind her daughter Patricia Bracco and her husband Howard of Louisville, Ken.; her son Richard and his wife Julia of Oak Bluffs; her nephew Melvin Bach III and his wife Patricia of Albrightsville, Penn. Peg also leaves behind five grandchildren: Ronald Schnetke of Los Angles, Calif., Kyla Cullinane also of Los Angeles, Robert and Jennai Bracco of Louisville, Ken., and Jason Bracco and his wife, Holly, also of Louisville.
Peg's dream was to live on an island and she fulfilled that dream in the 1970s when she and her husband, Bob, purchased the family vacation home in the Oak Bluffs Campground. Prior to retiring to Martha's Vineyard in the 1990s, Peg was active with many charitable organizations, especially the Girl Scouts. Later, she helped her husband run the Villa Restaurant in Wayland.
Peg and Bob were world travelers and loved their condo in Barbados, but they thought of Martha's Vineyard as their paradise. They graciously welcomed all into their home and hearts. Peg was loved and appreciated for her warmth, generosity of spirit, and beautiful smile. She was a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother, and a devoted friend to many.
A funeral and celebration of Peg's life will be held at the Oak Bluffs cemetery in June. Details will appear in a future edition of The Martha's Vineyard Times.
