Nadja N. Marry was a resident of Newton for over 49 years and part-time resident of West Chop in Vineyard Haven for over 20 years. She died at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston on March 4, after many years of pain and suffering. She was 85.

She was born in Meriden, Conn., on June 25, 1923, to her loving parents, Onufry and Helen (Tratinka) Rakesky, both immigrants from White Russia (Belarus). Nadja enjoyed music, reading and keeping up with current events. She lived a life of giving with lots of love and compassion.

She graduated with highest honors from the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing (1961), where she did her training and nursed some very interesting patients. Mrs. Marry was also a partner in Marry Enterprises, which owned and operated several Newton Taxi Companies, residential apartment buildings both in Newton and Martha's Vineyard, and a professional office building in Newton Centre. She was sharp as a tack and assisted in the daily operations of the businesses right up to her last few days.

Nadja was predeceased by her sisters, Katherine Rivera M.D. and Sophie Wilkey, as well as her son Matthew. She is survived by her loving children George, Mark, Helen, and Michael; son-in-law Roger Arduino; many grandchildren, of whom Michael Arduino had a special place in her heart, as well as several great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Nadja had many, many friends who were very important to her throughout her life.

Funeral services and interment at Newton Cemetery are private. Sullivan Funeral Home of Brighton assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
