Obituary : Jeanne S. Hilton

Jeanne S. Hilton died May 27 at Windemere after a long illness.
She was born in Boston on September 25, 1922, and adopted the same year by Florence and Harry Wood of Taunton.
She lived her early years in Taunton, Lakeville, and later on in Middleboro.
She went to hair dressing school after high school. She then enjoyed a summer on the Cape before marrying Edgar Wilbur (now deceased) and settling in Middleboro where she raised three children.
She and her family spent many summers living in a cottage in the Methodist Campground in Oak Bluffs, an experience her children loved and will fondly remember.
She went to nursing school with her daughter Shirley, and graduated in 1968.
She moved to Martha's Vineyard in 1968. She worked at Martha's Vineyard Hospital for years, and is fondly remembered by many she cared for as a gifted and wonderful nurse.
She married Spencer Hilton of Chilmark in 1969. They were married for 40 years.
She is survived by her husband, Spencer; daughter Shirley and her partner, Rob Roy; daughter Cynthia Wilbur; son Paul Wilbur and his partner, Dale Watts; her siblings, Jeannette Bigelow, Yvonne Mendes, Lawrier Wood; step-sons John Hilton and his wife, Lorna, and Lewis Hilton; grandson Joseph Turney and his wife, Laurie; granddaughter Lisa Turney and her partner, Todd Fletcher; eight great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 12, at 1 pm at the West Tisbury Church. Interment of ashes will be at Abel's Hill Cemetery in Chilmark, followed by a reception at the West Tisbury Church.
Her family is grateful for the wonderful care she received from Dr. Ellen McMahon and the nurses and CNA's at Windemere.
Donations in her memory may be given to the Visiting Nurse Association of M.V., and to Windemere.
