Obituary : Louise C. Pearce
Louise Copeland (Sherman) Pearce of Bristol, R.I. and Martha's Vineyard, died on June 28 in Oak Bluffs. She was the wife of the late William Craig Pearce and at his passing in 2001, they had been married 58 years. A daughter of the late Clarence E. and Inez Copeland Sherman, she was born in Lynn on May 16, 1922. Later that year the family moved to Providence.
She was a graduate of The Lincoln School and Colby Jr. College, now Colby Sawyer College in New London, N.H. After World War II, she and her husband settled in the Edgewood section of Cranston where they raised their family. She volunteered in Brownies, Cubs Scouts, little league, and teaching Sunday school. For eight years, she ran the thrift shop at the Edgewood Congregational Church. During this time she became an avid quilter, all done by hand.
At her summer home on Martha's Vineyard, she enjoyed making jams, jellies, and preserves for family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Susan P. Rasmussen and husband Ned of Cumberland, R.I., Craig D. Pearce and wife Kathie of Ixonia, Wis., Kimberly G.P. Sutton and husband Howard of Portsmouth, R.I., and Martha's Vineyard, and Raymond A. Pearce and wife Leanne of New Fairfield, Conn., and Martha's Vineyard; seven grandchildren; and four great-grand children. Also surviving are a brother, Richard D. Sherman of Falmouth and Martha's Vineyard, and a sister, Carolyn S. Snell of Fort Pierce, Fla. She was the sister of the late Stuart C. Sherman. At her request there will be no calling hours or funeral. Following cremation, her ashes will be buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Tisbury.
