Obituary : Whitney P. Blair

Whitney "Pete" Pierpoint Blair died peacefully at his home in Sebastopol, Calif., on Aug. 13.

Born in Waltham on June 6, 1954, Pete grew up in Rye, N.Y. where he attended Rye Country Day School, graduating in 1972. He graduated from Denison University in Greenville, Ohio with a BMS degree in organ performance in 1976.

Pete married Lark Newick on Feb. 7, 1981 on Martha's Vineyard where they lived for seven years. Three of their six children were born on Martha's Vineyard where he taught music, was music director for Children's Theatre, choir director and organist at Grace Church and worked at DECA.

The Blairs have lived in northern California for the past seven years where Pete worked for Solar Energy companies including the most recent, Magnetek.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lark Newick Blair, and their six children, Ezra and his wife Kendra, Ben, Liza, Aria, Ian, and Rane; his parents, Whitney and Susan Blair; a brother, Timothy; and sisters Susan Brew, and Kathy Beringer, and many loving friends.

His articulate mind and sense of humor will long be remembered and missed. He was a gifted parent and man of spiritual depth and empathy with an abiding love for others.
