Obituary : L. Grant Ducharme
L. Grant Ducharme died December 17 at the age of 29.
Grant was born in Worcester, to Lawrence and Laurie Ducharme on March 30, 1980. He resided in Bolton among his entire extended family. He attended Lawrence Academy and Salisbury School as a remarkably gifted athlete. He attended Northeastern University until starting his own business, Duke Excavating Inc.
Grant spent many years as a full-time resident of Martha's Vineyard and was a familiar figure to many on the Island. He had an uncanny ability to excel at any physical pursuit he attempted, but nowhere was he happier than on the water. Regardless of the season he could be found out on the beach, tires deflated and rods in the racks. His many photographs of the Vineyard capture some of its finest moments and most amazing beauty.
Grant possessed an incredibly generous heart. His love towards those closest to him never faltered, nor did his quick wit and biting humor. Grant was a passionate animal lover and was rarely seen without his dogs, who would even accompany him in his pursuit of a winning derby catch.
Survived by parents Lawrence and Laurie Ducharme of Bolton and Oak Bluffs; grandparents Paul and Barbara Weatherbee of Bolton and Elizabeth Ducharme of Clinton; sister Melissa Airey Perkins husband Dave Perkins her children Evan and Lauren Airey, Evan and Michaela Perkins of Grafton; brother Brandon and Sandra Ducharme their children Isabelle, Caroline and Jack Ducharme of Bolton; and sister Christine Ducharme of Bolton. He leaves behind Shamus Kelley, formerly of Oak Bluffs, and Dana Faughnan of Edgartown and Newton, who loved him immeasurably. He is survived by Stuart, Dozer, and Hawes, all members of his pack. Grant graced the lives of countless friends and people who loved him with all their hearts.
