Obituary : John D. Hare
John Donald Hare died in Rochester, N.Y., on April 3. He and his wife, Nancy, were longtime summer residents and very active in Gay Head/Aquinnah. Don and Nancy organized the library book sales each summer. They also hosted the annual Friends of Aquinnah Public Library luncheon at their home. In addition, they were very generous in support of Community Baptist Church and especially providing new pew Bibles a few years ago.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by three children — Kathleen (Richard) Day, Christopher (Michelle) Hare, and Jonathan (Kimberly) Hare; and six grandchildren. He graduated from Harvard University and the University of Rochester Medical School, where he was a member of the microbiology faculty for 30 years.
A memorial service will be held at the Century Club in Rochester on April 17, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Class of 1954 Scholarship Fund, 300 East River Road, Box 278996, Rochester, NY 14627, or the Pluta Cancer Center, 125 Red Creek Road, Rochester, NY 14623.
