The Martha's Vineyard Regional High School varsity girls hockey team  hosted Barnstable Saturday and lost to the Red Raiders, 2-0.

The visitors peppered MV goalie Texe Craig with 53 shots on goal. Two made it to the back of the net.

At the other end of the ice, Raider net tender Carly Spalt was asked to handle just seven challenges.

It was the Vineyarders second loss in two starts. Barnstable's early season record is 1-1.

Penalties were almost even as Barnstable was whistled for eight offenses and the Vineyarders for nine. Twice the Islanders were reduced to three skaters facing Barnstable's five.

Last Monday's game at Needham was postponed due to weather.
