Menemsha Deli reopens Tuesday

The ride to find hearty sandwiches, snacks and hot coffee just got a little shorter for folks living or working up-Island. Karen’s Menemsha Deli in Menemsha reopens Tuesday, Feb. 1.

Owner Karen Cimeno says her goal is to stay open year-round once again. A coupon for 10 percent off appears on page 5 in today’s issue of The Times.

Mainland meal delivery available on-Island

Fresch & Holsum’s, an all-natural prepared meals market based in Mashpee and Hyannis, is offering free next day delivery of all the company’s natural entrees, side dishes, appetizers and desserts to any Island home or office through March 31.

A company flyer, which only refers to Cape Cod delivery service, is inserted in this week’s issue of The Times.

Polly Papsadore, co-owner of Fresch & Holsum, said the flyer was printed before she learned that the Island was within the delivery contract negotiated with Federal Express.

Ms. Papsadore said she thinks the service will be most appreciated by senior residents who may have difficulty getting around during the winter months.

According to a press release, Fresch & Holsum’s offers over 50 all-natural menu items every day, including appetizers, entrees, side dishes, desserts and kids’ meals. No artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, hydrogenated oils, or synthetic preservatives are used in its meals, which are prepared by hand, then vacuum sealed and quick frozen to naturally preserve premium taste and texture. Its meals can be warmed in the microwave or conventional oven in minutes.

The business began after Ms. Papsadore, a busy mother and professional with very limited cooking skills and no free time, hired Cindy Parker, a personal chef, to prepare meals in advance for her family. The convenience of having a dozen prepared meals in the freezer gave the women an idea for a business and the rest, as they say, is history.

United Way adds Island board members

The Cape and Islands chapter of United Way kicked off its 2005 fundraising campaign with the election of David Scudder, vice-president of Hy-Line Cruises, as board chairman. According to a press release, total 2004 fundraising efforts produced over $1.1 million.

New board members this year include Greg Orcutt, general manager of WMVY, and Robert Moore, principal of Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School.

Dukes County Savings Bank has new chairman

Frank Fenner of Chilmark was elected chairman of the board of the Dukes County Savings Bank. Mr. Fenner, Chilmark selectman, was first elected corporator in 1987, and then became a bank trustee in 1989.

“I am honored to represent the customers, and trustees, of a local bank that has accomplished many things over the last 50 years, and I am confident we’re well positioned for the next 50 years as well,” said Mr. Fenner.

Mr. Fenner currently lives in Chilmark with his family.

He owns and manages Menemsha Galley, a restaurant in continuous operation since the mid 1950’s.

Dukes County Savings Bank is currently the largest Island-based bank on Martha’s Vineyard with over $275 million in assets. The Bank offers full-service banking at six branches and a Trust & Investment office on Martha’s Vineyard.
