Youth lacrosse

Some 70 young Vineyard boys have signed up to play MV Youth Lacrosse (MVYL). Practice begins March 14 and season opening games will be played at Bourne, Sunday, April 10. The home openers versus Sandwich will be April 24. All home games are played at the Oak Bluffs School..

MVYL will field three teams: Under 15, Under 13, and Under 11. Last year Vineyard teams lost only three of 30 games.

The B&G scene

After a week off for school vacation, the RCBL continues playoff action Monday night at the Boys and Girls Club.

Yesterday B&G Director Greg Rollins took some thirty youngsters off Island on the 9:30 boat to check out the brand new B&G Club at Mashpee. After lunch at MacDonald’s the kids went candlepin bowling at Falmouth, many for the first time.

“If winter comes…”

BoatUS, the news letter of the U.S. Boat Owners Assn., claims to have found out the nation’s 10 most popular boat names. In order: Aquaholic, Island Time, Hakuna Matata, Happy Hours, Fish Tales, Liberty, Seas the Day, Freedom, Ohana, and Summer Wind.

If the above information gives anyone warm thoughts, however brief, of clear skies, gentle breezes and calm seas, it will have served its purpose.

“…can spring be far behind”

Spring sports practice begins March 21 at the high school. A preview of MVRHS varsity teams of baseball, softball, boys track and field, girls track and field, boys tennis, girls tennis, boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, and sailing will be published in The Times next week.
