RCBL Playoffs
The Patriots evened the score with the Lakers with a 100-99 playoff
win at the B&G, Monday, forcing a third and final game next Monday
to decide which team will take on the undefeated Timberwolves for
RCBL bragging rights.
The Lakers lost the game but earned a dozen mettle points for effort.
Only five Lakers showed up so there was never a chance for any of
the leagues most experienced players to take a blow and recoup.
Two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter, Chris Forbes fouled
out leaving four Lakers to finish the game. At the time the Lakers
led by two, 79-77. Four minutes later the Pats Teejay Roginski
followed Forbes to the sidelines, but the Patriots had a sixth player
available in Steve Brown and were able to keep five men on the floor.
The teams exchanged goals throughout the period with the Pats keeping
a nose ahead until, with final seconds ticking away, John Healy stole
the ball and passed it to Albie Robinson who laid it up and in to
tie the game at 99. It was the 10th time that the score had been tied
in the second half.
With 4.6 seconds on the clock Sandy Fisher sank one of two foul shots
providing the Pats with the winning margin.
Patriot Damon Mello had the game-high 35, just two more than Albie
Robinsons 33 for the Lakers.
In the twin-bill nightcap, the unbeaten T-Wolves eliminated the Legends,
109-80. Julius Middletons 17 was tops for the Legends. Jason
ODonnells 25 paced the Wolves.
The Timberwolves have a week off awaiting the outcome of the third
Pats vs. Lakers game, which tips off at the B&G at 7 pm next Monday.
Darting at the PA
Steve Furtaw and friends T.R. Fullin, Joe Blais, and Lucy Roy took
the swag Thursday, Feb. 24 beating Jarda Kral and cronies, 9-2. Steve
hit a 102 3-dart-on.
On Thursday, March 3, the Bettencourt bunch of Dave, Kurt Tesch, Peter
Valentzas with Keith Fullin and Wes Wood claimed the pot with an 8-3
crunching of the Kral crew.
Dave Herrmann hit a 98 3-dart-out.
The Bettencourt band leads the league with 40, followed by the Furtaw
fellowship with 38 and Steve Maciels marksmen with 35.
At win, place and show in the March 6 Round Robin tournament were:
(1) Francis Garvey, (2) Tim Fullin, (3) Laurie Maciel.
Peters has a tee.
In last weeks Times, Jarek Peterss name was correctly
spelled under a picture of the champion Bantam Yankees, but was twice
rendered Peers in the accompanying story. Our bad.
