The
Mayflower meet
For the fourth year in a row, the MVRHS boys track and field team
out-ran and out-threw the competition in the Mayflower League championship
meet at West Bridgewater, Tuesday. The Islanders garnered 165 points
to Bristol Plymouths 101. Blue Hills was third at 63, followed
by Diman (52), Sacred Heart (45.5), West Bridgewater (39) and Southeastern
(29).
The first six finishers in an event scored: 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1.
The MV girls came in second to perennial champion Sacred Heart,
191 to 112.5. West Bridgewater came in third with 87.5. Then came
Tri County (48), Diman (26), B-P (23), and Blue Hils (8).
The boys meet
Jackson Parker and Mason Fisher were 1-2 at two miles and Wolfie
Blair came in third. Chris Post was second in the mile and Eric
Herman took 5th. Lucas Brewer won the 400 and Derek Nagengast was
4th. Mitch Robinson led all in the 800.
Tim Luce was first over the high hurdles and Mitchell Moreis finished
4th in the 300m lows. Tim Luce, David Bouck, Josh Jackson, and Lucas
Brewer were the winning 4x100 relay team. Derek Nagengast, Ry Yennie,
Jackson Parker and Mitch Robinson made up the winning 4x400.
Steve Greenberg cleared 5 4 to win the high jump. Lucas
Brewer and Josh Jackson were 2 and 3 in the long jump. Conner Rasmussen
finished 3rd in the triple.
Derek Nagengast and Jim Bishop were 1 and 3 at putting the shot.
Tim Luce, Ryan Gorman, and Ry Yennie were 1-2-3 at the discus. Spencer
Hughes was sixth with the javelin.
The girls meet
Allison Flanders won the two mile race and Nica Sylvia was sixth.
Gen Flanders was third at the mile and Sagitta Woodman and Bridgett
Conlon added 5th and 6th place points.
Nina Butler was 5th at 200m and Ashley Medeiros 5th at 100m. Gwen
Mayhew was 3rd at 800m and Cassaundra Gaines 6th. Ainsley Clancy
was 5th over the 100m hurdles. Morgan Ibarrondo won the 300m hurdles
and Nica Penicaud took 4th.
The Vineyards 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams came in second to
Sacred Heart.
Katrina Nevin was tops at the high jump. Ashley Rebello was 4th
in the long jump and Ainsley Clancy was 6th. Morgan Ibarrondo was
4th in the triple jump. Ashley Medeiros was second in the shot put
with Lauren Tocick (5th) and Justeen Fogt (6th) adding points. Alice
Hopkins won the discus. Cassaundra Gaines was best with the javelin

T&F at Sacred Heart
The MVRHS boys track and field squad had a surprisingly easy time
of it, beating Sacred Heart, a major opponent in the Mayflower League,
96-40 in a dual meet, Thursday. Lucas Brewer was a triple winner
of the 100m and 200m sprints, and the long jump. Derek Negangast
put the shot and scaled the discus farthest. Chris Post won the
mile in 5.09, and Jackson Parker the two mile in 10:43.
The MV girls came in second to Sacred Heart, 78-58, despite Alice
Hopkinss double in the shot and discus.

Interscholastic
softball
The
West Tisbury school reports that their boys baseball team defeated
Edgartowns, Tuesday, 4-3. It was their fifth win against one
loss. The WesTiz girls lost to Edgartown. 10-4 and are now 2-4 on
the season.
The Oak Bluffs girls are unbeaten, at 6-0, while the OB boys are 4-2.
The semi-final round of playoffs will be Tuesday and the finals on
Thursday.

Six
and counting
The
Vineyard boys lacrosse team lengthened its current skein of wins to
six, outlasting Bourne in a high-scoring contest here, Monday, 20-15.
Mike Giordano led the Island scorers with five goals. Edison Parzanese
was key with eight assists and three goals. Other scorers were Taylor
Pierce (4), Tim Scott (3), Shane McGovern (2), Riley Dobel (2), and
Matt Rossi.
In the last six games the Islanders have outscored opponents 85-33.
With a 10-5 record and four games to go, the Vineyarders are guaranteed
a place at the post-season table.
Yesterday they were home to Barnstable, Tomorrow they host Nantucket.
They close out the season on the road at Bishop Stang and Dartmouth.
