Heads
crowned at Mink Meadows
Rusty Hitchings retained his Mink Meadows Golf Club mens championship
last week with rounds of 83, 77, and 77 for a 54-hole score of 237,
two better than runner-up Connie ODoherty who carded 81, 83,
and 75 for a 239 total.
It was Rustys seventh straight club title. His winning score
last year was 222.
The ladies club champ is Gwinnis Scott who emerged from a three-way
tie with last years winner Jan Lehmberg and Wendy Reagan at
190 for 36 holes. In the playoff, Ms. Scott parred the first hole
to claim the title. Lehmberg and Reagan went four holes before Lehmberg
nailed second place.
Mike Patterson repeated as junior club champion with rounds of 74
and 73 (147), 14 strokes better than last year, followed again by
Mike Ketcham posting 81 and 84 (165), an eight-stroke improvement.
The mens A flight winner was Mark Yale with a 54-hole score
of 252. Frank Cecilio was runner up at 254.
Pat Gregory won the mens B flight with a 268 effort followed
by Leon Bennett at 273.
The mens C flight best was Charlie Flathers (292), with
Woody Forns (302) in second place.
The ladies nine-hole winner was Marci Knowles who shot 67 twice for
a 134 score.
For the sixth year, Mink Meadows G.C. is sponsor for of a Jack and
Jill tourney to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
on Thursday, July 28. The shotgun start for male-female alternating-shot
teams is at 8 am. Register by calling the club at 693-0600.

Pete
Johnson of Millis was the big winner of the Open Division in the third
annual Vineyard Social Disc Golf tournament in the state forest, Saturday.
His two rounds of 54 and 56 were two better than runner-up Jerel Davis
of Fitchburg and earned him the $112 top money. Davis took home $84.
Wayne Bower of North Carolina topped the Amateur One class with rounds
of 56 and 62, five better than New Hampshires Doug Betchel,
who was second.
With a
two-round total of 121, John Tate took the Pro Masters honors and
J.C. Vermyck the AM Masters with 134, the same score as Dan Kaeka.
D.J. Kaeka led the Amateur 2 class at 134 and Wes Robinson was best
in the recreational flight, at 153.
The annual Vineyard Social was a benefit for the Chris Burgess Fund.
