Farm Neck Champs

It took two extra holes, but Gary Ben David retained his Farm Neck championship title, defeating John Ledden with a birdie on the 20th hole, the par 5 second. Gary was down two with two holes to play but won 17 and 18 to force the playoff. Chas Deary bested Mark Ellis 3&2 to win at Flight A. Tom Prendergast edged Norman Vunk 2&1 in Flight B and Tony da Rosa dropped Sandy Luce 7&6 to claim Flight C. Al Weiner took the senior flight 5&4 going head to head with Fritz Knight. Alex Bilzerian squeezed by Dickie McAuliffe 2 up in the Junior Club Championship match with a par on the 18th hole. Finishing strong, Mike deBettencourt beat Chris Costello in Flight A, 3&1. Womenıs titles will be decided Saturday, Champion finalists are Valerie Levy (159) and Anne Lemenager (172). Leslie Look (180) and Jean McCarthy (186) will vie for Flight A honors. Deborah Crews (200) and Connie Campbell (196) will decide matters in Flight B. Kathy Gibbs (199) and Gail Farrish (223) are the finalists in Flight C.

Baseball at Bourne

The MV all-star 9 and under baseball team was one of 10 teams entered in the Bourne tournament last weekend and when the dust had settled the Islanders were found in second place to the champs from Sandwich. Saturday morning the Islanders defeated Bourne, 11-5, and later, Brewster, 23-11. Then the Vineyarders were shut out by the Barnstable Nationals. 0-9. In the playoffs they defeated the Barnstable Americans, 6-4 to reach the championship round versus Sandwich, conquerors of the Barnstable Nationals. The Islanders fell behind, 12-1. then rallied in the late innings, but still lost, 12-6. Winning pitchers were Ian Bardwell, Mike Mussell, and Collin Cameron The Roster: Zoli Clarke, Mike Mussell, Tayman Brown, Ian Bardwell, Tony Canha, Tim Roberts, Collin Cameron, Kyle Stobie, Joe Uva, Yannik Gonsalves, and Eli Berlow. This weekend they will be at Freetown with teams from Berkeley, Dighton, and Swansea


Trinity, Blue Moon , and Triceratops round the weather mark during the annual Black Dog Dash for mulithulls.
Black Dog Dash

The 15th annual multihull Black Dog Dash to Edgartown and back was sailed Saturday with westerly winds at 12-16 knots diminishing to 8-10. First to finish the 22-mile course was Bob Gleason of Wareham in Tri Me. His winning time was 2 hours, 7 minutes. Second, in White Heat, was Dick Bluestein of Menemsha. Jim Burkert of Smithtown, N.Y. was third and Dave Pellegrini from Kingston, Maine was fourth. Fifth, in Rut Row, were Bill Heaton and Jep Peacock from North Scituate, R.I.
