About 200 runners started the third MV half-marathon at the American Legion hall in Tisbury finishing at the high school.

Roxbury man wins half-marathon

Running in the 20-29 age group, Edward Baker of Roxbury led the 179 runners who completed the third annual MV half-marathon, Sunday, in 1:18:15, almost two minutes better than John Friedman of Cambridge who was second at 1:20:11.

Times were better than last year when William Webster of Spartanburg, S.C. won the race in 1:24:11, but not as good as Kevin Gray's winning time of 1:12:24 in 2003.

Suzy Walsh of Wilmington, Mass., was the first female finisher in 1:32:49. She was 11th overall.

The rest of the top ten were: (3) Andrew Gordon, North Chelmsford, 1:22:46; (4) Ted Noon, Boston, 1:22:51; (5) Matt Harris, Oak Bluffs, 1:24:52; (6) Chris George, Nedham, 1:27:16; (7) Richard Galera, Nashua, N.H. 1:27:54; (8) Adam Cohen, Stamford, Cal., 1:32:21; ( 9) Ryan Pace, Brookline, 1:32:36; (10) Scott Lundin, Boston, 1:32:40.

Winners in the several age/gender categories were:

Male 19 and under: (1) James Whelen, Old Saybrook, Conn., 17, 1:39:59.

Male 20-29: (1) Edward Baker, Roxbury, 1:18:15; (2) John Friedman, Cambridge, 1:20:11; (3) Ted Noon, Boston, 1:22:51.

Female 20-29: (1) Marike Brockman, 26, Boston, 1:44:41; (2) Jenna Baraschuk, 24, West Tisbury, 1:52:15; (3) Kelly Rostkowski, 25, Nottingham, Md.,

1:55:37.

Male 30-39: (1) Ryan Pace, 32, Brookline, 1:32:36; (2) Scott Lundin, 30, Boston, 1:32:40; (3) Craig Keefe, 35, Steamboat Springs, Col., 1:38:26.

Female 30-39: (1) Catherine Galin, 33, New York, N.Y., 1:41:16; (2) Heather Weight, 31, New York, N.Y., 1:41:16; (3) Stacy Lane, 39, Charlestown, 1:45:25.

Male 40-49: Stephen McCaffrey, Charlestown, 1:33:49; (2) Brian McWilliams, 46, Durham, N.H., 1:35: 40; (3) Steven Andrews, 40, Essex Falls, N.J., 1:36:16.

Female 40-49: Danielle D'Angelo, 43, New Rochelle, N.Y., 1:40:07; (2) Judy Eick, 44, New York, N.Y., 1:45:01; (3) Deb Molinari, 41, Soutborough, 1:45:18.
