The annual quadrilateral interscholastic track meet at the MVRHS oval, Friday, was like no other previous meet in its 31-year history. (According to Bob Tankard, former PE teacher at Tisbury, later principal at West Tisbury, he and Joe Thibodeau of the Edgartown school organized the first meet to replace flag football, "the year the new West Tisbury school opened" which, Manny Estrella says, was 1974.)

The Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury girls tied, 31-31, and now share the Island girls crown. The Tisbury and Edgartown boys also tied, 35-35 jointly occupying the Island throne.

The first four athletes in each event, except the relay, scored for their school - five, three, two or one points. Only the first two finishers scored in the relay, five for the winner, three for the runners-up.

It was an overcast, cool day, not bad for a track meet.
