After two weeks of interscholastic track and field meets, the West Tisbury girls are unbeaten, having topped Tisbury and Edgartown. Also unbeaten are the Tisbury boys, with wins over West Tisbury and Oak Bluffs. Edgartown's boys are winless losing to O.B. and to West Tisbury. The Edgartown girls are 1-1, topping O.B. and losing to W.T. Oak Bluffs boys and girls have yet to win a dual meet. The final quadrilateral meet will be held at the high school track on Thursday, Oct. 5. Cross-country win Hilary Dreyer led the MVRHS girls cross-country team in a sweep of Fairhaven on the 5K Island course that winds through the state forest, Tuesday, making the run in 21:24. The Islanders not only produced the first five runners to complete the course: Dreyer, (2) Sarah Flanders, (3) Elizabeth Reid, (4) Kim Carlomagno and (5) Emily Sobel, the first ten finishers were all Islanders: (6) Julia Sadowski, (7) Eliza Gowell, (8) Laura Jernegan, (9) Alexis Moreis, and (10) Dominique Penicaud. It was a much more iffy thing for the boys team. After Fairhaven's Mitchell and Donte came in first and second at 18:27 and 18:31, MV's Lucas Emin (18:32) and Evan Kendall (18:49) were third and fourth at 18:32 and 18:49. Then came another Fairhaven harrier, Dawicki, and things looked bleak for the Vineyard. But the next six runners all wore purple and white: Forest Harcourt, Max Conley, Alan Wiley, Ben Williams, Robert Osmers, Connor Rasmussen and Fairhaven had to settle for 12th and 13th. Thus the Island boys team pulled off a 28-31 win. Originally scheduled as a three-way meet, Southeastern pulled out at the last minute leaving only Fairhaven to face the Vineyarders. |
