His and her crowns go to Tisbury

The Tisbury School won both the boys and the girls championship titles at the 32nd interscholastic quadrilateral track and field meet at the high school, Thursday. The Vineyard Haven school was a clear winner, unlike last year when the Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury girls and the Tisbury and Edgartown boys finished in dead heats

There were no sweeps in either meet. The most dominant efforts were the Tisbury girls 1-2 finish in the shot put and the long jump. Oak Bluffs did as well in the 200-meter dash. O.B,'s Alicia Oliveira won both the 100- and 200-meter races. Sidra Dumont was a double winner in the discus and hurdles.

Final scores: Tisbury, 29; Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury, 20; Edgartown, 17.

In the boys meet Tisbury was 1st, 2nd, and 4th over the hurdles. West Tisbury was 1-2-4 in the mile. Final tallies: Tisbury 29, Edgartown 23, West Tisbury 17, Oak Bluffs 13.

Jack Wadleigh of Oak Bluffs "hit for the circuit" finishing 1st in the 100, 2nd at 200, 3rd in the shot, and 4th with the discus. Dhonathan Lemos and Brian MacKenty gave Edgartown a 1-2 punch in the shot put.

Columbus Day honeymoon

One hundred seventy-six runners, young and not so young, competed in the Oak Bluffs 5K Columbus Day road race under a cloudless sky, Sunday. That was 41 more than last year.

The number included two couples who not only celebrated Columbus Day by running a 5K, they also married. Bride Maureen Larkin was the first woman to finish and her groom, David Reavill, was in the top ten, second in his age group. Maureen and David married Sunday morning. Also finishing well. Rachel Hunt was third in her age group and her groom, Colin Maclay was seventh in his. They married later in the day.
