Aquinnah forges ahead with energy DCPC

By Susan Vaughn - February 1, 2007

Aquinnah voters will be asked to take the effort to regulate energy use one step further. An article scheduled to appear on a March 8 Aquinnah special town meeting warrant asks voters to support a nomination by the selectmen for an Island-wide energy DCPC "to mitigate the environmental impact of new or renovated structures which demand high amounts of non-renewable energy (for example, structures having more than 2,000 square feet of interior space within their weather walls at ground level) and to foster Island energy independence by requiring the installation of renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind powered generators and/or geo-thermal systems, and/or the creation of a so-called 'energy credit system' which could, for example, require donations to the Vineyard Energy Project or other approved renewable energy projects on Martha's Vineyard or to take any other action relative thereto."
