UIRSD votes regional formula
The Up-Island Regional School District (UIRSD) committee voted unanimously at a meeting Monday night to certify the formula for town assessments using the Island's regional formula, based on enrollment, instead of the state's statutory formula, that considers each town's wealth.
The formula will be reflected in the UIRSD school budgets presented to Aquinnah, Chilmark, and West Tisbury voters at their respective annual town meetings. All three towns must agree for the regional formula to prevail. The up-Island committee's decision follows a similar one made last week by the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School District school committee to stick with the Island's regional agreement in hopes that an agreement among towns can be reached.
