Aquinnah elects Spencer Booker

Posted May 10, 2007

Aquinnah voters yesterday elected Wampanoag tribal natural resources ranger Spencer Booker selectman. Mr. Booker defeated landscaper Carlos Montoya, 126 - 92, for a seat on the three-member board.

Voters also approved Proposition 2.5 requests for $80,000 to pay for the preservation and repair of the historic old town hall (160 - 52) and $45,000 to purchase a new highway department dump truck (125 - 84).

Taking the plunge, voters approved a ballot question that asked if the selectmen should seek legislative approval to allow the town to issue licenses for the sale of beer and wine to be consumed with meals by patrons of restaurants with a seating capacity of not less than 15 people, by a vote of 132 - 79.

A total of 220 voters out of 411 registered voters or 54-percent of the electorate went to the polls Wednesday.
