John R. (Bob) Metell, age 80, of Bourne and formerly of Falmouth, died Monday Feb. 25 at Bourne Manor.

He was the husband of the late Teresa M. (Lynch) Metell who died in March 1999.

Born in Oak Bluffs, he was son of the late Fred and Mary Jane (Cardoza) Metell. John was a U. S. Army veteran serving in Japan during the Korean War. He worked for the Dept. of Marine Fisheries for many years until his retirement.

John was a volunteer Call Fireman for the town of Falmouth for many years, a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in E. Falmouth, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He also dressed as "Smokey the Bear" at many of the Town of Falmouth events and parades.

He is survived by two stepsons, Thomas A. Murray and John J. Murray Jr., both of E. Falmouth, two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Gossington of E. Falmouth and Diedre A. Klassen of Valencia, Calif.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 pm on Friday Feb. 29 at St. Anthony's Church, located at 167 E. Falmouth Hwy., East Falmouth. Burial will follow in the V.A. National Cemetery of Massachusetts in Bourne. Visiting Hours will be Friday form 11 am to 12:30 pm in Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, located at 475 Main St. Falmouth Center.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony's Church, Fatima Hall Fund.
