Obituaries

The Martha's Vineyard Times publishes obituary information including photographs without charge, for current and former residents of Martha's Vineyard, and for persons with significant ties to the Island community. At a minimum, obituary information should include the date and place of death, cause of death if possible, the deceased's full name and age, service information and a contact telephone number for a family member and the funeral home, for verification purposes.

The submission deadline for full obituaries is 5 pm Tuesday, for publication on that Thursday. The Times makes every effort to publish brief death notices containing timely service information, even if received on Wednesday for publication on Thursday.

In general, obituaries ought to be no more than nine hundred words long. All obituaries are subject to editing by The Times for style, clarity, and length. If you have questions or need assistance writing an obituary, please call (508) 693-6100 and ask to speak to the Calendar editor.

Obituary information may be submitted by fax (508-693-6000), mail (PO 518, Vineyard Haven, A 02568), email (calendar@mvtimes.com) or brought to The Times office on Beach Road, Vineyard Haven (opposite the Art Cliff Diner). Please be sure to provide contact information. You may also choose to use The Times obituary form to submit your information.
