Vineyard Verses : Venezuela-Bound
It must surely be an osprey's "bummer,"
to be the last bird of summer.
On a mid-September morn, crisp and clear,
this female landed behind Windemere.
It's hard to guess what it is she seeks;
she's been without mate for the last two weeks.
And as I toured osprey nests around town,
she's apparently the only bird still around.
She fishes often and eats every bite,
building energy for a long southern flight .
Providing her migrational clock doesn't fail her,
she'll head south any day for Venezuela.
