A New England organization to benefit people with neurofibromatosis sponsored a walk Sunday morning in Hyannis for the benefit of an Oak Bluffs girl and her family.

Steps 2 Cure NF, a 2.5-mile walk that began at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis benefited the family of Evelyn Higgins, an 11-year-old student at Oak Bluffs School who has NF. Evelyn was joined on the walk by her mom Naomi Dias, stepfathers Billy Dias and Russell Long, brother Theo Dias, and sister Suzie Dias.

NF is a genetic disorder of the nervous system that can cause tumors to grow on the nerves and in some tissue cells.

NF Northeast helps with financial support for families in Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire that use treatment facilities in those areas.

Tax-deductible donations may be made online at www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/evelynjoy-higgins.
