The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will hold a design public hearing on Wednesday, April 13, to discuss proposed sidewalk reconstruction on State Road in Tisbury. The hearing starts at 5 pm at the Katherine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven.
The project area consists of a half-mile of existing sidewalk on the north side of State Road from Camp Street to Pine Tree Road, according to MassDOT’s public hearing notice.
A secure right-of-way is necessary for the project, and acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required, according to the notice. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be discussed at the hearing.
The estimated construction cost is $404,418. Plans are to fund the project through the 2011 Transportation Improvement Program for the Martha’s Vineyard Commission. Construction would begin in the fall.
The purpose of the hearing is to provide the public with information on the project, which is now at the 25-percent design phase. Comments made at the hearing will be reviewed and given consideration by MassDOT.
Plans will be on display 30 minutes before the hearing begins, with an engineer in attendance to answer questions. A project handout is available on the Mass DOT website, www.massdot.state.ma.us/Highway.
