The Tisbury Water Works (TWW) will begin its annual program to flush town hydrants on Monday, April 25.”This program will ensure that all of our fire hydrants operate properly and improve water quality throughout town,” TWW said in a press release.

Hydrant flushing will begin at 9 pm and continue as late as 7:30 am, Monday through Friday evenings. The process of flushing the entire system is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, TWW said.

“Customers may notice a severe drop in pressure while the hydrants are flowing. You should not experience a total loss of water pressure. If you do lose all water, please call the Dukes County Communications Center at 508-693-1212 and they will contact the TWW crew,” TWW said.

“Customers are advised that some discoloration of the water may occur if you draw water while we are flushing near your home. If this occurs you should wait until we are out of the area and then run cold water from the faucet nearest to the water meter for several minutes and it should clear up.”

Water customers are advised to check their water for discoloration prior to washing laundry. The TWW office can provide recommended cleaning instructions. For more information call 508-693-3100.
