It’s off the beaches and onto buses for students next week. On Thursday, September 6, Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools (MVPS) and the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School open for a new school year.

New MVPS teachers report to their classrooms for two additional work days on August 30 and 31 as part of their required induction and mentoring program. Other staff members return on September 4.

The incoming freshmen have a half-day to themselves at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) to learn the ropes on Wednesday, September 5, from 7:45 am to noon. Orientation activities include a school scavenger hunt.

Opening day information for Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools is available online at www.mvyps.org, which also includes links to the individual schools. Parents can check in with schools for bus routes and stops or contact Transportation Manager Jimmy Flynn at MVRHS at 508-693-1033, ext. 253.

Information about bus routes, school schedules, and notices for MVRHS students may also be found online at www.edline.net.
