To the Editor:
Republicans want the coming election to be a pass/fail vote on the president’s record, which they have lots of statistical evidence to attack. But they can’t just ask us to mark him a failure and kick him out; our ballot requires them to offer the name of their candidate to replace him.
In 1980, against an obviously failed Jimmy Carter, the Republicans offered a California governor named Reagan, who won by a landslide and went on to be a party icon.
Governor Romney is no Reagan.
