Honoring veterans

The annual Veterans Day Parade kicks off at 10:45 am this Sunday, Nov. 11, from Nancy’s Restaurant in Oak Bluffs. The parade will proceed to Ocean Park for a brief ceremony.

Other Veterans Day events include setting up flags at 7:30 am and taking them down at 3 pm, at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven. Volunteers are needed. Call 508-693-9257 for more information or to sign up.

Truckin’ MV

Bring your kids to Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School to explore 25+ trucks and vehicles this Saturday, Nov. 10. A benefit for the Vineyard Montessori School, the event is from 10 am to 12:30 pm, and is $10 per child; $25 per family; free for adults. Horns and sirens will go off at 12 noon. Islanders help Sandy victims

Ryan Murtha of Edgartown is organizing a drive for donated supplies to take to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Originally from Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Mr. Murtha will take the supplies to various parts of New York and New Jersey.

Suggested items, new or used when appropriate, to donate are: water, blankets, clothes, batteries, diapers, toys, games, food, and pet food. Monetary donations are also accepted, to buy more provisions.

Donations will be collected on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 7:30 pm at the Edgartown Park and Ride, behind Edgartown Pizza. For more information, call Mr. Murtha at 774-521-7225.
