Aquinnah voters went to the polls on May 15 and said yes to a $230,000 Proposition 2.5 override. The vote was 39 to 26.
Turnout was extremely light. A total of 65 voters, or about 17 percent of the town’s 369 registered voters, went to the polls to elect town officers and answer one ballot question, a request for additional tax dollars to fund a portion of the town’s Up-Island Regional School District budget.
At annual town meeting on Tuesday, May 14, voters easily approved a $3.8-million operating budget.
The following candidates were elected to town office: Spencer Booker, selectman, re-elected with 58 votes; Heidi Vanderhoop, library trustee, 58; Ted Cammann, board of assessors, 47;Julie Vanderhoop, board of health, 13 write-in votes; JoAnn Eccher, planning board, 52; Carlos Montoya, planning board, 45; Betty Joslow, constable, 62; Heidi Vanderhoop, constable, 2 write-in votes; Michael Hebert, moderator, 59.
