Sharpshooter Dick Carlson keeps Klays for Kids title

Dick Carlson of Oak Bluffs broke 48 of 50 targets to win the 16th Annual Klays for Kids Charity skeet shoot at the Martha’s Vineyard Rod & Gun Club on a blistering hot Sunday. It was Dick’s second title in a row, won against tough competition.

Matt Tobin of Chilmark and Matt Gamache and Vineyard Haven, each with 47, tied for second place.

The event, held at the club’s skeet range overlooking Sengekontacket pond, benefits three programs for Island kids.

The score was based on each shooters best two rounds of 25 targets. Each participant paid anywhere from twenty-five cents per miss to $1 per missed target, depending on the shooter’s ranked ability. The event raised over $250.

On Sunday, August 11 the club will sponsor its annual skeet championship.The public is invited to attend the meet.
