Fall soccer teams take to the pitch

Three MV United youth travel soccer teams were in action Saturday as the fall Cranberry League season moved into the third week of play.

The MV United Under-11 girls soccer team hosted Dartmouth at the Park and Ride field in Vineyard Haven and drew 3-3. Nina Moore scored twice on second-effort goals in the box and Alexa Pil added another to her season tally. Hope Bettencourt made some terrific runs from the holding midfield, while newcomers Sarah Lytle and Anya Dwane gave great efforts throughout the match. The U-11s play at Falmouth Saturday.

The U-14 girls traveled across Vineyard Sound to play Falmouth. With Brianna De Oliveria stellar in goal and the MVU diamond defense holding firm, the visitors trailed 1-0 at the break. In the second half, Megan Sawyer left her station at right fullback to play goal. Falmouth adjusted to the defensive change and mounted a strong attack to pull away for a decisive win.

The U-12 boys team hosted local rivals Falmouth at the Park and Ride, grinding out a 2-0 win.

The Purple and Black scored on an own goal deflected off a Josh Sampaio shot. Nick Depaula followed with a 20-yard strike into the onion bag as MVU improved to 3-0. The boys play away at Mashpee on Saturday.
