English ‘footballers’ defeat West Tisbury hosts

Visiting students from the Bridgewater School in England got together with their West Tisbury School hosts, before the Britishers left for home. West Tisbury lost the annual 'football' contest, but there will be a rematch next spring when West Tisbury visits Bridgewater.

Students from Bridgewater School in England wrapped up the first half of their exchange with the West Tisbury School with a “football” – soccer to us – game between the two schools. The annual soccer match ended with the British booters beating the U.S. team. The locals will have to wait until June, 2014, when West Tisbury 8th graders travel to Warrington, England, to even things up.

The exchange developed lots of “cross the pond friendships,” according to teacher Al Mahoney, “and both the West Tisbury students and their exchange partners from England are looking forward to the second half of the exchange.”
