Police in West Tisbury move to new quarters

West Tisbury police are mourning the loss of one of their own. Daniel Gouldrup, 59, died of natural causes, a department release states.

Friday, March 28, the West Tisbury police will move from their old, cramped 1,300 square foot station, perched picturesquely beside the Mill Pond, the department’s home since 1974, to a new, $2.5 million, 5,600 square foot headquarters, at 454 State Road in North Tisbury, behind the Public Safety Building, across State Road from Conroy’s Apothecary.

The new police office is connected to the Public Safety Building by a short hallway. The news headquarters includes a lobby, offices, and a bathroom on the first floor. A conference room, a bunk room, a break room, a lavatory, and office space for animal control and emergency services personnel are on the second floor. The basement has two locker rooms, evidence and armory rooms, and storage areas. And the new location has lots of parking.

Police Chief Daniel Rossi said there are plans for an open house later in the spring, when the public will be invited to tour the new facility, the fire station, the Tri-Town Ambulance Service and the police station. The police department phone number is unchanged, 508-693-0020. Fax 508-696-0120.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported the old station as a 3,800 square foot building. It is 1,300 square feet.
