To the Editor:
This past Friday my wife and I had the unfortunate experience of a bike accident within the state forest, both of us needing immediate medical evaluation. Having practiced medicine for 44 years, I have had intimate experience with emergency response and I want to tell you that the entire experience on Martha’s Vineyard was as good and compassionate, if not better, than any I have seen.
Response from the West Tisbury Police Dept. was rapid and efficient. Officer Garrison Viera was able to locate us in the forest and immediately attended to my wife’s neck injury. He was reassuring, professional, and very competent. He made the situation as relaxing and calm as possible.
Likewise the ambulance crew from Tri-Town Ambulance was kind and very efficient. My wife was stabilized at the scene and transported expeditiously to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.
The care at the hospital was also very professional and timely with much compassion. Luckily we were discharged within three hours.
Kudos to Martha’s Vineyard for a job well done, and offering maximum support and reassurance during our frightening experience.
