West Tisbury selectmen last week agreed to follow the recommendation of Police Chief Dan Rossi and hire Bradley Cortez as a full-time police officer. Mr. Cortez had reached the end of a required probationary period for new officers.
Selectmen also announced at their meeting on October 22 that the West Tisbury town holiday party will be held from 5 to 8 pm, on Thursday, December 11, at the Agricultural Hall. Selectman Richard Knabel said the town needs volunteers to help out, specifically an oyster shucker and a turkey carver.
The meeting also featured a discussion with animal control officer Joan Jenkinson regarding her efforts to protect swans that have made Mill Pond their home (See related story).
Selectmen will conduct joint meetings with the planning board on November 3 and with the Conservation Commission and the Parks and Recreation Committee on November 18 to discuss Lambert’s Cove beach access and Mill Pond issues.
