To the Editor:

Over the past two weeks, the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School had Project Period. During this time, our class has been creating fantasy worlds. Along the way, we were helped by many people, including Molly Peach and Savannah Lawson, teachers from The Trustees of Reservations, local artist John Hagen, Richard Paradise from the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center, and the crew of the Chappy Ferry.

On behalf of the entire Create a World project period, we thank John Hagen for coming in and showing us his art from his college years, and giving us an idea of what fantasy can look like in art. “You are one of the best artists I’ve ever met,” Mikey Wallace said.

We thank the Chappy Ferry for bringing us over to Chappy for free. It was a cold and sunny ride.

We thank Molly and Savannah for taking us for hikes on beaches, and showing us the beautiful and fantastical landscapes of Chappaquiddick. “Thank you for taking us to Wasque, Long Point, and Mytoi Gardens. I was inspired,” said Elijah Dunn-Feiner.

We thank Richard Paradise for opening the Film Center just for our class and showing The Never-Ending Story. “The Martha’s Vineyard Film Center is one of my favorite movie theatres,” said Hannah Hagen.

Having all of the community support has been so great, and we hope you know that we are grateful for how much the these people, businesses, and organizations have helped us to understand the world of fantasy.
