Vineyarders excel in Cape and Islands All-Star hoops

Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School sophomore Erin Hill scored a game-high 18 points and earned one of three Most Valuable Players awards for the Lower Cape team Sunday in the Cape and Islands All-Star girls basketball game played at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center. Senior Mariah Duarte was a defensive standout, and added two points. Freshman Molly deBettencourt scored six points. Upper Cape edged the Lower Cape 80-78.

In the boys game, won by Upper Cape 131-128, Vineyard senior Mac Sashin grabbed nine rebounds to earn co-defensive player of the game honors. MVRHS senior co-captain Tim Roberts was named Lower Cape MVP. Mr. Roberts slammed down a big dunk in the first half, and drained a three-pointer late in the second.
