The Sense of Wonder Creations annual Spring Art Show and Benefit takes place this weekend, on Friday and Saturday, June 12 and 13, from 1 to 5 pm at the Sense of Wonder Creations Studio, 23 Grove Avenue in Vineyard Haven. The Art Show opening and closing party and celebration will be on Saturday, June 13, from 2 to 5 pm. All the proceeds from the celebration will go to Sister Flora’s Orphanage in Ile-à-Vache, Haiti, which owners Pam and Nat Benjamin visited last winter.

Each year the event celebrates the work of student artists, and this year the artwork of the 80 hardworking Sense of Wonder art students will be on display. Twenty of the students even walk over from the Vineyard Montessori School every Monday afternoon to sit in on classes and advance their artistic skills.

Art being exhibited will include drawings, paintings, ceramics, papier-mâché, mosaics, wire sculpture, printmaking, collage, sculpture, and more. The closing party will feature music by Rick Bausman’s Steel Breeze trio. The event will also include food, ice cream, a drumming workshop, face painting, henna tattoos, balloon and pipe-cleaner animals, games, creative art projects, surprise guests, and more. Not to be missed will be the unveiling of an 8-foot by 12-foot mural painted by Jack Yuen, Aaron Teves, and Dayanna Middleton that will be hung on the Felix Neck Barn this summer.
