The Polly Hill Arboretum off State Road in West Tisbury will host a free tick-borne Illness forum sponsored by the Cape Cod Municipal Health Group from 6 pm to 7 pm, Tuesday, August 18, in the Arboretum barn meeting room.
The Island is one of the state’s hot spots for Lyme, anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and tularemia. And now the dog- and deer-tick populations are being joined by the lone star tick. The forum will describe ways to minimize your exposure, recognize the symptoms if exposed, and obtain a diagnosis and treatment if symptomatic. Panelists include the following members from the Island Boards of Health five-year initiative to reduce the incidence and severity of tick-borne illnesses: Michael Loberg, Ph.D.; Richard Johnson, field biologist, Lena Prisco, Ph.D.; and Michael Jacobs, M.D.
