Artist Abe Pieciak of Lure-Fish will be opening a pop-up gallery in Nevin Square in Edgartown beginning Saturday, Sept. 19, through the end of October, to coincide with the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby, which began this past week. The gallery will feature originals, prints, apparel, and other works by the artist.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 5 to 9 at the gallery, located on Winter Street.
According to a press release, Lure-Fish began four years ago with a hand-drawn outline of a striped bass that Mr. Pieciak then filled in with bright, colorful lures. False albacore, bluefish, bonito, largemouth bass, and trout paintings soon followed.
“I was inspired by all the guys who make their own wooden plugs on the lathes and paint them all different colors. I love fishing and art, so I just kind of put the two together,” said Mr. Pieciak.
Soon after, the artist created a Facebook page (bit.ly/LureFishFB) and website (lure-fish.com) and began selling original paintings, prints, T shirts, stickers, and tote bags (handmade by his mother in Maine). In four years, the 32-year-old artist has painted 70 originals and has created prints for the 2014 and 2015 Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby.
A six-year resident of Martha’s Vineyard, Mr. Pieciak grew up in Maine, and has been a fisherman all of his life. He plans to fish every day of the Derby.
The Lure-Fish gallery will be Sept. 19 through October 31, Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 8 pm in Edgartown’s Nevin Square.
