On Friday, Jan. 15, at 5:30 pm, a Shabbat service at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center will pay homage to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and his friend and colleague Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. This is the 18th year that the Martha’s Vineyard chapter of the NAACP and the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center have co-sponsored the tribute to the Reverend King and Rabbi Heschel. Rabbi Caryn Broitman will lead the service.
The celebration will include freedom songs from the civil rights movement and songs from Jewish tradition, as well as a discussion concerning the Black Lives Matter movement. An “oneg” shabbat of light refreshments will follow the service and tribute. For any questions, contact Herb Foster at 508-627-7456 or herblf@comcast.net.
