Three Martha’s Vineyard Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial artists traveled to Hanover Saturday to compete in a North American Grappling Association tournament that attracted more than 700 competitors in the gi and no-gi division, the difference being the type of clothing worn.
Coach Vandre Ramos, a master brown belt, competed in the lightweight class and won the belt for first place in the expert no-gi division and a silver medal for second place in the master brown belt gi division. Devin Church, a purple belt, competed in the the feather-weight class and won silver for both second place in expert no-gi division and gi division. Nigel Smith, a purple belt competed in the welterweight class and won a silver medal for both second place in expert no-gi division and gi division.
