This weekend at the annual Fairleigh Dickinson Tournament at the Martha’s Vineyard Arena, the high school boys hockey team will be raising money for the Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group. They will be selling long- and short-sleeve shirts they designed, displaying the slogan “Puck Cancer” on the front and the MV Hockey logo on the back.
According to a press release, fighting cancer is something these kids are very aware of, as many have had a family or extended family member battle with cancer. Community service is an important part of the boys’ season. Last year, as a team, they participated in Relay for Life. The previous year, they had a very successful Wounded Warrior fundraiser, which earned over $6,000 by selling combat hockey jerseys.
The tournament begins on Saturday, Feb. 13. The first game is at 5 pm; the Vineyard plays at 7 pm. On Sunday, Feb. 14, there is a consolation game at 11 am, and the championship game is at 1 pm.
