On Wednesday, Feb. 17, Edgartown School students filled the gymnasium for the annual Edgartown School spelling bee. The following 11 students represented their homerooms: Nicholas Carpenter, Geovane Meikle, Isabella Osborn, Alex Walsh, Clara Cabral, J.J. Polleys, Sara Creato, Kylie Fauteaux, Desiree London, Amelia Craig, and Julia Gomes. The bee lasted an impressive 12 rounds. The winner was eighth grader Julia Gomes, who spelled the winning word “inclement” to take the top spot. The runner-up was fourth grader Nicholas Carpenter, and sixth grader J.J. Polleys came in third place. Miss Gomes will compete on behalf of the Edgartown Eagles at the Island-wide spelling bee next month.
