The Aquinnah housing committee and the planning board will hold an informational meeting about affordable housing options on Thursday, March 10, from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public. In addition to discussing upcoming housing opportunities, the housing committee will seek input and will answer questions.
According to a press release, there are a significant number of Aquinnah residents who struggle to afford homes, and families must confront difficult decisions about land that may have been in the family for generations. The planning board intends this meeting as a kickoff for an ongoing discussion about how to achieve community housing goals, and create more affordable housing options — while preserving the character of the town — with the hope of proposing some zoning changes at the annual town meeting in May.
