This caring community turned out

To the Editor:

A heartfelt thank you to the community of Martha’s Vineyard for the benefit last Thursday at the P.A. Club. It was an incredible evening, one that my family and I will never forget. Such an outpouring of support, well wishes, kind words, and love! I am so humbled and appreciative to all of you. How nice it was to be surrounded by family, friends, co-workers, schoolmates, and so many more.

It was an evening of food, drink, catching up with old friends, conversation, hugs, and a lot of laughter. It is just another example of this caring community coming together to support one another. It doesn’t matter where your home may be, when you are privileged enough to grow up on the Vineyard, that is where home will always be.

A special thank you to Patti Leighton for her hard work and sacrifice to plan such a wonderful, perfectly orchestrated event. Thank you to Gina DeBettencourt, Brett Leighton, and Gary Jardin for their hard work in the kitchen; and to Charlene Alley and the staff of the P.A. Club for their support and hospitality. To the smiling food servers, Louise Dahill, Phil Mercier, Will and Todd Debettencourt, and Tim Lowe. To all the volunteers: especially Jen Araujo, Nancy Andrade, Pam Amaral, Nora Jardin, Kristy Rose, Mary Griffiths, Pam Davey, my co-workers, and so many more for all their support with selling tickets, collecting donations, setting up and cleaning the hall, and baking, and for assisting Patti in so many ways before, during, and after this incredible evening. Thank you to Cronig’s Market and Pain D’Avignon for the salad fixings and rolls.

And finally, thank you so very much to all 28 generous individuals and businesses for the wonderful items donated for the silent auction.
