Saturday night about 8 pm, Oak Bluffs police officers Seth Harlow and James Haggerty, the two newest officers on the squad, responded to an emergency caller who said there were two men on the front lawn of a house on Simpson Avenue who had overdosed. When the officers arrived at the house, both men, age 30, were turning blue and foaming at the mouth, and neither man was breathing, according to the police report.
The officers each administered a dose of naloxone (Narcan) to the men simultaneously. Both men were breathing and responsive by the time Oak Bluffs EMS arrived on the scene.
It was the first time each officer had used Narcan in the line of duty, Lieutenant Tim Williamson said.
In a post to the Oak Bluffs Facebook page, police noted that neither the revived men nor other people at the scene cooperated or would tell police what drugs were used and where the drugs were obtained.
Both patients were transported to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for further medical evaluation.
